About Voco
What is Voco?
Voco is live sermon translation for churches. Spoken audio becomes translated text on the phones already in the room, in 200+ languages, with no attendee app.
What Voco does
The church starts a live session from the dashboard and uses a laptop microphone, a phone microphone, or a sound-desk feed. Voco turns that speech into live text and translation, then sends it to the congregation reader. Attendees scan a QR code, choose a language, and follow in real time. A display URL can be opened in OBS as a Browser Source, or in ProPresenter as a Web Item, so translations appear as live lower thirds. Missed text is stored server-side and delivered when an attendee reconnects.
Who Voco is for
Churches welcoming multilingual families, international students, refugees, and deaf or hard-of-hearing attendees. The about page also names diaspora churches, city congregations welcoming new arrivals, households that would otherwise need a family member to interpret, international student churches, and smaller churches without a production team.
How Voco works
Use the audio you already have: a phone on the lectern, a laptop mic, or a sound desk or USB interface. Put the QR code on a screen, in the bulletin, or on a welcome slide. People open the link in any browser, choose a language, and read along. Font size, theme, and text-to-speech controls are on the reader. Press Start in the dashboard. Voco listens live, turns speech into text, and delivers translated lines while the sermon is happening. A three-stage pipeline turns spoken words into translated text through speech recognition, neural translation, and delivery. The profanity filter is always on, and word boost can teach a pastor name, a church name, and biblical terms.
Key features
- 200+ languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Mandarin, Farsi, Arabic, Yoruba, Tagalog, and regional variants.

Facts from voco.church, checked 13 October 2026
- The about page names Josh Stannard as founder.
- Voco is from the Latin for to call or to invite, and the about page says it is unrelated to voco hotels.
- The about page says machine translation is not magic, and it tells churches to stay plainspoken about limits and tradeoffs.
- Voco does not charge by attendee, and it does not stop a service halfway through because a sermon runs long or a guest needs another language.

Frequently asked questions
What does the congregation need?
Attendees scan a QR code and read live translation on their own phones in 200+ languages. There is no attendee app, no account, and no hardware queue.
What audio setup is enough for a first test?
No special hardware. A phone or laptop microphone can run a test, and a sound-desk feed is the cleaner input. A microphone, an internet connection, and a screen or printed QR code are enough for a first test.
What if WiFi drops during the sermon?
Voco stores missed text server-side and delivers it when the attendee reconnects. The page says they will not lose the thread of the sermon.
Does a plan cut the service off mid-sermon?
No. Voco does not cut a service off mid-sermon. Plans describe the normal pattern. Occasional visitors, longer services, and one-off church events are fine.
What if the first service does not go as planned?
Email hello@voco.church, and the pricing page says they will arrange a setup and troubleshooting call. The seven-day trial needs no card and ends without an automatic charge.
Is sermon audio stored?
The about page says audio is streamed for transcription and translation and is not kept as a permanent recording. Stored transcripts are retained for 90 days and then deleted. The about page says they operate under UK GDPR.
