About StoreCanary

What is StoreCanary?

StoreCanary scans public Shopify product pages and reports Google visibility issues in plain English, with a fix for the pages it flags. The scan is read-only. Nothing is installed in the Shopify admin.

What StoreCanary does

StoreCanary reads the public server HTML, JSON-LD structured data, robots directives, and product feed signals on a store. Checks cover product schema, price and availability in the schema versus the page, review star markup, noindex tags, canonical tags, 404s on indexed products, vanished or unpublished products, redirects, hreflang, sitemap validity, and domain basics. The report names the issue, the business impact, and a fix. Most issues are described as theme-level, where one change repairs the whole catalog. Shopify is where the scan goes deepest. WooCommerce is described as next.

Who StoreCanary is for

StoreCanary is for Shopify stores that want a read-only look at public product pages. The how-it-works page names Maxime as founder and describes the builders as e-commerce operators.

How StoreCanary works

Paste a store URL. The report fills in as it scans, and problems appear as they are found, starting within seconds. The scan does not use OAuth, a Shopify app, a password, or admin access, and no code is injected into the theme. Nothing on the store is modified. The crawl rate is capped at 2 requests per second. An issue has to persist across two consecutive scans before an alert is sent, so a one-off blip during a deploy or a CDN hiccup does not trigger one. Price checks account for EU and US formatting differences. Gift products, free samples, and internal test SKUs are flagged as to confirm, not as failures. Each reported issue includes how to verify it with official Google tools, including Rich Results Test and Search Console.

Key features

  • The scan reads public server HTML, JSON-LD, robots directives, and product feed signals. It does not use admin access.
  • More than 90 checks are grouped into structured data, indexability, catalog health, international hreflang, and site-level sitemap and domain checks.
  • The report can flag noindex, broken or missing product schema, a price mismatch, in-stock markup on a sold-out product, invalid JSON-LD, canonicals, 404s, and sitemap health.
  • Most fixes are described as theme-level, so one change repairs the whole catalog.
  • The crawl is capped at a strict 2 requests per second so the scan does not put load on the store.
  • An alert waits until the same issue persists across two consecutive scans.
  • Cases such as gift products, free samples, and internal test SKUs are marked to confirm rather than as failures.

Pricing

As listed on storecanary.io, checked 13 October 2026. Prices can change; see the site for current terms.

  • The free scan is $0. No card and no account are required.
  • The free scan shows the type of issue, how many pages it affects, and two or three fixes in full.
  • The full catalog report is $49, once. It names every affected page and the fix for each issue, written for Shopify.
  • That paid report also checks collections, the sitemap, and hreflang. It is one payment, with no subscription, and the page says it is yours to keep and share with a developer or agency.
  • The page states a 14-day money-back guarantee on the paid report.

Facts from storecanary.io, checked 13 October 2026

  • Maxime is named as founder on the how-it-works page.
  • The scan never modifies the store and does not inject code into the theme.
  • Price checks account for EU and US formatting so a formatting quirk is not flagged as a mismatch.
  • An issue must persist across two consecutive scans before an alert is sent.
  • If the free scan finds a clean store, the page says the scan says so and there is nothing to pay.

Frequently asked questions

Does StoreCanary need access to the Shopify admin?

No. Everything is read from public pages. There is no OAuth, no app, and no code snippet. No admin access is required, and nothing on the store is modified.

What does the free scan show?

The free scan names what is wrong and shows two or three fixes in full. It needs no card and no account. Problems appear as they are found, starting within seconds.

What does the $49 report add?

The $49 report covers every affected page in the catalog with its fix. It also checks collections, the sitemap, and hreflang. The page says most fixes are theme-level, so one change repairs the whole catalog. It is one payment and not a subscription.

How can a reported issue be checked?

Every issue includes how to verify it with official Google tools, including Rich Results Test and Search Console. The page says the scan would rather miss one issue than raise a false alarm.

Does the scan work outside Shopify?

Shopify is first, and the page says that is where the scan goes deepest. WooCommerce is described as next.

Is the crawl limited?

Yes. The scan is read-only and looks only at public pages. The crawl rate is capped at 2 requests per second so it does not put load on the store.
