About Shotbase
What is Shotbase?
Shotbase is a macOS app for screenshots, screen recordings, and webpage captures, with one editor for stills and motion. Optional on-device AI names, tags, and summarizes captures on the Mac.
What Shotbase does
Shotbase captures any area, window, or full screen, plus scrolling screenshots, screen recordings, and full-page or viewport webpage captures across custom breakpoints in light or dark mode. The static editor adds annotations, backgrounds, frames, shadows, borders, watermarks, arrows, text, highlights, shapes, and callouts. The motion editor adds automatic zooms, movement, text effects, and 3D transformations. Optional local AI generates filenames, tags, and summaries without sending image content to a remote model. A shareable link is created only when someone chooses it, and the screenshot or recording opens in a browser.
Who Shotbase is for
Shotbase is for people capturing on a Mac, from solo creators to product teams. A company can talk to sales about product fit.
How Shotbase works
Start on macOS with a 7-day free trial and no card required. Capture a screen, a recording, or a webpage, then edit the still or the motion in the same editor. Local AI is optional and requires a Mac with Apple silicon. It is not available on Intel-based Macs. Without local AI, Shotbase uses default filenames instead of generating names and tags. Screenshots, recordings, and project files remain local by default. Shotbase uploads a capture only when a shareable link or another cloud-based feature is chosen. The link can be pasted into iMessage or another conversation, and reactions and feedback can sit with the shared work.
Key features
- Capture any area, window, or full screen, plus scrolling screenshots and screen recordings.
- Webpage capture can take the entire page or only the viewport, at mobile, tablet, desktop, or another breakpoint, in light or dark mode.
- The static editor adds annotations, backgrounds, frames, shadows, borders, watermarks, arrows, text, highlights, shapes, and callouts.
- The motion editor adds automatic zooms, movement, text effects, and 3D transformations.
- One library keeps screenshots, recordings, and webpage captures together, with search through names and tags.
- On-device AI can generate filenames, tags, and summaries. Image content is not sent to a remote model.
- A share link opens on a web page, so the recipient does not need Shotbase to view it.

Can screenshots and recordings be edited?
Yes. Shotbase includes a static editor for annotations, backgrounds, frames, shadows, and other visual treatments, plus a motion editor for automatic zooms, movement, text effects, and 3D transformations.
Is the AI private?
Shotbase uses optional, on-device AI to generate filenames, tags, and summaries without sending image content to a remote model. Local AI requires a Mac with Apple silicon and is not available on Intel-based Macs.
Does Shotbase upload captures on its own?
No. Screenshots, recordings, and project files remain local by default. Shotbase uploads a capture only when someone explicitly chooses to create a shareable link or use another cloud-based feature.
What happens when the free trial ends?
Capturing, viewing, editing, and organizing can continue. Shotbase Pro is required to export new or newly edited work, create share links, and keep existing shared links active. Pro members also receive future Pro updates.
