About RouterPlex

What is RouterPlex?

RouterPlex is an AI gateway to models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and other providers through one OpenAI-compatible API. Pay as you go is the default, and Plex Lite, Plex Pro, and Plex Max are optional monthly plans. The about page says it is not Plex Media Server and not a home-router product.

What RouterPlex does

A RouterPlex API key connects Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or an OpenAI-compatible SDK. Each key can have a hard spend budget, a model allowlist, and rate limits. The page says a built-in optimizer cuts cost by up to 40% with no quality loss. Usage is request-level token usage and cost in the dashboard. Models are billed at the vendor public list price, per token, from a prepaid balance that cannot overdraft. The about page says it will store usage metadata, not prompt content, and does not train on that data, with contributor models as the exception.

Who RouterPlex is for

People connecting a coding assistant or their own application to more than one model provider, with a prepaid balance and a hard limit per key.

How RouterPlex works

Verify email, then create a budget-controlled key in guided setup. An eligible verified account with no previous paid top-up, no existing credit, and no previous setup-credit grant receives $1 free credit when that setup key is created. The $1 credit does not expire and no card is required to sign up. Add a card only to top up. Paid top-ups start at $5. Recurring plans use card checkout. A balance can fund one non-renewing 30-day plan cycle, once per account.

Key features

  • One OpenAI-compatible endpoint for coding tools and for apps, with a key per project.
  • Hard spend budget, model allowlist, and rate limits on a key. The balance cannot go negative.
  • Catalog rates in USD per million tokens, billed at vendor list price, with a $0 platform fee.
  • Optimizer described as cutting cost by up to 40% with no quality loss.
  • Pay as you go with no RouterPlex RPM or TPM cap, or a monthly plan with 4-hour, weekly, and monthly spend windows.
  • Card and crypto top-ups. A playground is included. Support is community, email, priority, or a direct channel by plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does the $1 credit expire?

No. The $1 credit does not expire, and no card is required to sign up or claim it. Add a card only when topping up. The grant is once, when the setup key is created, for an eligible account.

Is a monthly plan required?

No. Pay as you go is described as the default, forever, with no RouterPlex RPM or TPM cap and no usage-window cap. Plans add bonus credit and spend windows.

Do plan credits expire?

Credits stay in the pooled balance. An active plan still has 4-hour, weekly, and monthly windows. Unused balance remains after a window resets or when the account returns to pay as you go.

Are token prices different on plans?

No. Every tier pays the same published per-model rates. The page says plans are a discount because the included credits are worth more than the monthly price.

What is stored?

The about page says it will store usage metadata, not prompt content, and that RouterPlex does not train on that data. Contributor models are the exception. Those labs may train on the prompts a person can send.
