About Routebase

What is Routebase?

Routebase is an API design, testing and documentation platform built around an OpenAPI specification. Published versions drive documentation, mocks, tests and monitoring.

What Routebase does

The visual editor supports endpoints and reusable schemas, with import and export for existing contracts. Publishing generates a docs portal and mock server. Test suites and monitors validate against the same version, while branches and merge requests support review. MCP exposes the feature set to agents under team permissions.

Who Routebase is for

Developers designing APIs, frontend teams using mocks and QA teams running contract suites can use Routebase. Plans range from personal projects to teams needing governance, identity management and audit exports.

How Routebase works

The user imports a spec or creates endpoints in the visual editor, then publishes a version. Frontends build against the mock and test suites run in CI. Scheduled monitors compare live responses with the specification and show field-level differences. New spec work can be branched and reviewed before merge.

Key features

  • Visual editing creates OpenAPI contracts.
  • Existing specs can be imported and exported.
  • Published versions generate docs and mocks.
  • Test suites use the same contract version.
  • Scheduled monitors report response drift.
  • Spec branches isolate draft changes.
  • Merge requests support review and approval.
  • MCP lets agents design, lint and test.
