About Reactive Resume

What is Reactive Resume?

Reactive Resume is a free, open-source resume builder under the MIT License. There is no paid tier, no ads, and no tracking. Donations pay for hosting and development.

What Reactive Resume does

Write a resume and cover letter, pick from 17 templates, and download PDF, Word, Markdown, or JSON. A public link can be private, live, or password protected. Import a PDF, a LinkedIn export, JSON Resume, or a Reactive Resume export. With your own AI key, Word files work too. The ATS checker reads a text-based PDF. A job tracker, interview prep, and offer comparison use that key for coaching. The app is translated into 54 languages. Amruth Pillai and contributors keep it running.

Who Reactive Resume is for

Reactive Resume is for people writing a resume or cover letter who want every feature free, including self-hosting. AI features need your own key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Ollama, or another provider.

How Reactive Resume works

Start blank, from a sample, or by import. The editor shows details on one side and the page on the other. Pick a template and adjust fonts, colors, page size, and layout. Download PDF, Word (DOCX), Markdown, or JSON. Share a public link or keep the resume private. Add an AI key only if you want tailoring, coaching, or Word import. Docker image hosting uses your own server, database, and storage.

Key features

  • Downloads are PDF, Word (DOCX), Markdown, and JSON. JSON imports into a self-hosted copy.
  • Import a PDF, LinkedIn data export, JSON Resume file, or Reactive Resume export.
  • A resume can stay private, go live at a public link, or use a password. Deleting the account deletes the resumes.

Only you, until you share it. A resume can stay private, go live at a public link, or be protected with a password. Deleting the account deletes the resumes with it.

PDF, Word (DOCX), Markdown, and JSON. The JSON export imports back into any Reactive Resume, including one you host yourself.

Does it use AI?

Only if you add your own key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Ollama, or another provider. Without a key, nothing is sent to an AI service.

Can it be self-hosted?

Yes. It is open source under the MIT License and ships as a Docker image, so it runs on your own server with your own database and storage.
