What is ProMatte?
ProMatte is an OBS filter that can remove, blur, or replace a webcam background on the machine itself. Frames are processed in memory and are never uploaded. It is free, with no account and no telemetry.
What ProMatte does
Behind the camera, the background can be transparent, blurred, dimmed, or replaced with a colour, an image, a video, or another OBS source. Six presets tune matte quality and speed. A model looks at a shrunken frame and makes a matte, then the full-resolution image snaps the edge. The render thread never waits on the model. If a fresh matte is not ready, the previous one is reused.

It is for someone using OBS on Windows, Linux, or macOS who wants the webcam background handled on that PC. Windows is verified end to end on one 2017 laptop. macOS on Apple Silicon runs and is not benchmarked. The Linux package loads, and the page says it has not been run in OBS against a camera. There is no green screen.
How ProMatte works
Leave quality on auto and the filter measures the machine, picks a model, and remembers it. The Low-End PC preset caps AI at 15 times a second. The page reports a usable edge at 1080p.
