About MiniPACS

What is MiniPACS?

MiniPACS is a self-hosted PACS for an independent imaging center: a DICOM archive, browser viewers, and a worklist. Vendo is the referral and booking portal. Both run with Docker on Linux, on hardware or a cloud account the clinic controls.

What MiniPACS does

Modalities send DICOM C-STORE into the archive. Reports can be stored as encapsulated PDF with the study. Browser viewers are Stone, OHIF, and VolView, with nothing installed on the reading station. The pricing page says scans open in about 0.6 seconds, measured, with no plugin. Staff can share a study with a PIN, a QR code, or email, with expiry presets of 7, 14, 30, or 90 days, or no expiry. Vendo is described as a FHIR-native referral portal built on Medplum. If payment lapses, view, export, and share stay available. Export is standard DICOM plus a database dump.

Who MiniPACS is for

MiniPACS is for independent imaging centers in the United States that want the archive on hardware they control. Tim Hunt, an independent software engineer, builds, sells, and supports it. The fact sheet says staff is one person, and that other vendors also use the MiniPACS name.

How MiniPACS works

The license is flat per physical location, with no per-study fee and no charge for more machines, users, or images at that site. A mini PC can run a single site. Setup is remote: one 15-minute call, then install over a secure tunnel, with daily encrypted backups. Migration of an existing archive is a one-time fee from $1,500, quoted before commit. A second site is a second location fee. The contact on the fact sheet is tim@minipacs.net.

Key features

  • DICOM archive, browser viewer, and worklist on one machine. Ingest is DICOM C-STORE.
  • Viewers in the browser are Stone, OHIF, and VolView. Nothing is installed on the workstation.
  • The pricing page says scans open in about 0.6 seconds, measured, with no plugin.
  • Unlimited machines and unlimited staff at the location. The fee does not move when the team grows.
  • Share links can use a PIN of 4 to 6 digits, a QR code, email, and an expiry of 7, 14, 30, or 90 days.
  • Self-hosted with Docker on Linux. The page says imaging data stays in the building.
  • If a bill goes unpaid, view and export keep working. Export is standard DICOM plus a database dump, and the page says the export is free.
