About Caption Generator
What is Caption Generator?
Caption Generator adds captions to a video in the browser. The video stays on the device. Subtitle files can be downloaded, or an MP4 can be exported with captions burned in.
What Caption Generator does
Drop in a video or audio file. Check the words, pick a style, and export SRT or VTT, or an MP4 with captions burned in. Every word gets its own timestamp. It works in 30+ languages, with punctuation added. Styles on the page include Bold Pop, Karaoke, Highlight Box, Headline, Neon, Sticker, Boxed and Minimal. There are 16 styles. Change the font, colours, size and position. Show 1-3 words at a time, one line, or two lines. Paid plans add 1080p and 4K with no watermark. Subtitle files are always free.
Who Caption Generator is for
The page names creators making captions for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, businesses making captions for ads and LinkedIn videos, and educators making captions for lectures and courses, with SRT and VTT for YouTube, Vimeo or an LMS.
How Caption Generator works
Drop in an MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, MP3, WAV or M4A file. The original video, the preview and the final MP4 stay on the device. Only a compressed audio track is sent for transcription, and it is not stored afterwards. Click a caption to fix a word, split a long caption, merge short ones, or delete one. Export SRT, VTT, TXT, or an MP4. No account is needed for subtitle files. An email is asked when a captioned video is exported on the free plan. It runs in the browser on Mac, Windows or Chromebook.

Frequently asked questions
Is Caption Generator free?
Yes. Transcribe up to 30 minutes a day, edit the captions, and download SRT, VTT or TXT with no watermark. A burned-in video export is free at 720p with a small watermark.
Does the video get uploaded?
The video is processed in the browser. Only a compressed audio track is sent for transcription, and it is not stored afterwards. On paid plans the captions are saved to the account, and the video is not.
What counts as a transcription minute?
The length of the audio. A 3-minute video uses 3 minutes. Editing, restyling and re-exporting do not use those minutes.
Is the 7-day pass a subscription?
No. It is a one-time payment for 7 days, then it ends. The pass includes 120 transcription minutes, videos up to 30 minutes, and 1080p export with no watermark.
Can the plan be cancelled?
Yes. Cancel from the account and keep access until the end of the billing period. The 5 most recent projects stay open.
